THE FIRST THOUGHT OF THE DAY

John 12:24-26

24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Every morning, as soon as I wake up, a question automatically pops into my head: What am I supposed to do today? As the fog in my mind lifts, one by one, the appointments, all the jobs that need to be done, and all the details of the day slowly come into focus. Then I try to plan out the day in front of me, but inevitably one of the details will cause me to begin the day worrying, and that's wrong. Worry is a symptom of being alone, without help, without comfort. Instead of asking, What am I supposed to do today?, I should fall to the ground and die. My first thought of the day should always be the question, What do You want me to do today?
